US Consul General in Karachi JoAnne Wagner on Wednesday guaranteed the Pakistan International Airlines of help in supporting it a direct access to the American mainland.
The guarantee got here during a meeting with Ms Wagner when PIA chief Air Marshal Arshad Malik asked for her to facilitate the PIA in having direct airplanes to US cities, including New York, Chicago and Houston.
Due to safety issues, the US does not allow any direct flight that starts at a Pakistani airport into its airspace. In October 2017 , the PIA halted its flights to the US as a result of rising operational price and in a bid to reduce losses it had been facing.
The PIA chief said the protection condition in Pakistan had developed enormously and related aviation and security agencies of Canada and European countries had expressed their confidence over the current developments. He told the US envoy of getting certification and approvals from the IATA Operational Safety Audit and other agencies.
Ms Wagner assured the PIA of help by getting in touch with relevant US departments in solving its problems which includes having a direct access to US mainland.
