KARACHI: Newly-elected Deputy Mayor Syed Arshad Hasan, who belong to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan ( MQM-P ), started to take his oath of office on Thursday at a celebration held in Gulshan-i-Jinnah, better known as Polo Ground. City Mayor Wasim Akhtar managed the oath.
Office of the deputy mayor had become empty after the disqualification of Arshad Vohra for changing viewers after being selected to his placement. Mr. Vohra had connected the Mustafa Kamal-led Pak Sarzameen Party ( PSP ) on Oct 29, 2017, stating that he was not able to supply to the consumers of Karachi.
Then MQM-P convener Farooq Sattar had gone to the Election Commission of Pakistan ( EP ), seeking disqualification of Mr. Vohra under the Local Government Act 2013. The ECP had month pronounced Mr. Vohra’s disqualification for changing viewers after being selected to his placement.
Dealing with the competitors of the celebration, Mayor Akhtar declared the election of the deputy mayor was one more large good results for the party which was the result of the nonstop flight. “We all as selected representatives or employees have a similar aim to solve the issues of the location and to perform our part in this struggle to carry development on this city,” he applied. Later, the deputy mayor visited the mausoleum of the Quaid-i-Azam and provided fateha.
